SERVING GOD'S PURPOSE IN OUR GENERATION
Scriptures
- 1 Samuel 2:12
- Acts 13:36
- 1 Samuel 15:33
Main Scripture: Acts 13:36
BIG IDEA
Every generation is called to serve God's purpose in its own time, as David did, and not to dishonor God as the generations of Eli and Saul did.
INTRODUCTION
We bless the Lord for such an honor and privilege to serve God. Our topic is serving God's purpose in our generation.
Some people know their grandparents, and there will be more people after us. So how can we serve God in our time?
Acts 13:36 says David fell asleep, and in his time he served the Lord. 1 Samuel 2:12 speaks of people who did not know the Lord. 1 Samuel 15:33 talks about rebellion.
Previously, different speakers have spoken to us. Some generations have walked the earth and failed to serve God's purpose. We hope that in our generation we will honor God.
MAIN POINT 1: LEARN FROM TWO GENERATIONS THAT DISAPPOINTED GOD
The first generation is the generation of Eli. His children did not know the Lord. They were in the church, but they dishonored God.
We have come to church and made things familiar, so the right energy we should give to God is not there. The energy we should put into the church is missing.
We hope we do not become like the youth or children of Eli. We are children of the church, yet there is no true worship of God (Y3 ba asored3m nanso nyamesompa 3ni hc). May we not dishonor God. Let us give honor to the Lord (Y3mfa anidie 3ma awurade).
The second generation is the generation of Saul, the generation of disrespect. They disrespected order and fell to the pressure of the world. Lord, do not let the world pressure us (Awurade 3ma 3wiase 3mpresure y3n).
Because of his children, God forsook Eli. Eli disappointed God. Hophni and Phinehas disappointed God. Saul disappointed God.
Transition: If there is something to be done, let us do it well.
MAIN POINT 2: THE SEASONS OF LIFE (MAN)
M means Morning. A person sees the morning (3nipa hw3 adekye3).
A is the Afternoon season. In this season we are energetic, we work, and we do not listen to anyone. In the afternoon season we have great ideas (y3 wc adwen k3se3). In the afternoon season we are sharp, and our minds are awake.
When we are in our youth, it is the afternoon season.
N is the Night season. In the night season, the season of darkness will come, and God is our light.
There were ten virgins. Five were wise and five were fools. The matter of extra oil showed us our foolishness. When the time came, the lights of five were off, and the other five had light.
When we enter the night, may God give us the light.
MAIN POINT 3: SEPARATION
We need separation for our elevation in Christ. Praise the Lord. In serving the purpose of God, we need to be separated. We should separate ourselves from certain utterances.
Even a fool who remains quiet is counted wise. We are youthful, so we should be useful.
It is not every place that people go that I must also go (3ny3 nipa biaa na wcc mo kc 3wcse me kc bi). Keep yourself.
MAIN POINT 4: GIVE YOUR ALL TO GOD
When you give yourself to God, give your all. When you give your all, be ready to give your time.
Illustration: A certain singer came to Kumasi, to the sports stadium. Almost 40,000 people came. Even ushers came, even though it was not a holy gathering. Give your all, and do not follow everything.
God will need your time. Give it to God. Give your body to God as a living sacrifice, worthy and acceptable.
MAIN POINT 5: BE FRUITFUL
So stand firm that you will bear fruit (So gyinay3 s3 wo b3 so aba). Wherever David went and worked, he bore fruit, but wherever [the other person] went and worked, it was hard (Baabi a David kcc y3 biaaa csoo aba nanso baabiaa ckcc y3 biaa na 3den).
Illustration: There is a farmer who planted a tree that did not bear fruit, and so it was cut down. Some people have occupied and wasted the land. May God make us fruitful.
If you do not bear fruit, we will let someone else come and take your place (S3 waanso aba aa, y3 b3 ma obi foforo ab3 si wo anan). Nobody is a worthless person (Obiaa nye nipa hunu), but the sons of Eli were considered good for nothing.
Application: Make the decision today.
I will be youthful and useful.
May God locate us. May God use us.
MAIN POINT 6: THE WALK WITH GOD IS SPIRITUAL
The Christian walk is a spiritual walk. We see Elders, Deaconesses and Deacons. This is the walk of the eyes of faith.
We cannot waste our spiritual [gifts or work] or forgo our spiritual work. We do everything for God. Whatever we do, we are doing for God. It is not by our might but by the Spirit of God.
Whatever you need, ask God. Ask God for strength.
Why am I saying ask God for strength? There is a lady who is brilliant, but because there is no money, she is staying home. The option she wants to take is not God's path. We pray that God gives us the strength to make the right decision.
