Becoming Great Helpers
The apostolic calling to be a helper is rooted in the divine appointment that God gives each believer. Ephesians 4:12 reminds us that Christ gave apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors, and teachers “to equip the saints for the work of ministry.” As women, we are not peripheral; we are integral to that equipping, called to develop our gifts and to steward them for the glory of God.
Spiritual gifts are not random talents but God‑ordained abilities that flourish when nurtured in prayer, Scripture, and fellowship. Emerging ladies should seek the Holy Spirit’s direction through regular fasting, personal devotion, and participation in small groups where seasoned mentors can affirm and sharpen their gifts, whether in teaching, hospitality, administration, or compassionate care.
Dignity and wisdom flow from a heart that submits to Christ’s lordship. In the Ghanaian context, where cultural expectations often pressure women to prioritize others, we must balance service with self‑care, remembering that a well‑rested and Spirit‑filled helper is more effective in ministering to families, congregations, and neighborhoods.
A Story for the Heart
Ama, a 22‑year‑old graduate of a teacher‑training college in Kumasi, felt a tug on her heart to serve beyond the classroom. She began by volunteering in the church’s Sunday School, arranging materials and praying over the children. Recognizing her organizational gift, the women’s pastor invited her to assist in planning the annual women’s conference, where Ama coordinated logistics, secured speakers, and mobilized volunteers from her neighborhood.
Through this experience, Ama discovered a deeper calling to community outreach. She partnered with a local health clinic to organize a women’s health screening day, inviting doctors and nurses from the city. The event not only provided vital services but also opened doors for Ama to mentor younger girls, teaching them about biblical identity and practical life skills. Today, Ama is known as a dependable helper whose faith and diligence inspire many in her church and district.
Wisdom for This Week
Strength is both spiritual and practical. It is cultivated by walking in obedience to God’s Word, by confronting challenges with faith, and by taking on responsibilities in church ministries such as women’s fellowships, youth outreach, and community health projects. When we exercise authority given by Christ, we become visible agents of transformation.
Partnership is the hallmark of apostolic ministry. Emerging ladies are encouraged to collaborate with male and female leaders, sharing ideas, co‑leading initiatives, and supporting one another’s visions. This synergy reflects the unity of the body of Christ and models to the wider community how God’s people work together for a common purpose.
Finally, maturity is measured not by age but by the fruit of the Spirit evident in our lives. As we grow, we become reliable helpers who can mentor the next generation, ensuring a continuous cycle of empowerment, service, and gospel impact across churches, homes, workplaces, and society at large.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, we thank You for the women You have placed in our midst, each uniquely equipped for ministry. Fill our emerging ladies with the Holy Spirit’s wisdom, strength, and humility. May they walk confidently in the calling to equip the saints, building up Your body with love and partnership. Guard their hearts, grant them discernment, and multiply their impact in church, family, vocation, and community. In Jesus’ powerful name we pray, Amen.
