Becoming Christlike Leaders

The foundation of any lasting leadership is a personal relationship with Christ. As the Apostle Paul instructed Timothy, a mature believer first absorbs the Word, allowing the Holy Spirit to shape his character. In the Ghanaian context, this means beginning each day with prayer before the sunrise over Accra, seeking the Lord’s wisdom before the market awakens, and letting that divine insight guide every decision we make in the home, the sanctuary, and the workplace.

Humility is the hallmark of a disciple‑maker. When we acknowledge that every talent and opportunity comes from God, we are freed from the pride that often corrupts power. A servant‑hearted man walks beside his wife, listens to his children’s concerns, and respects the elders in the church, thereby modeling the very humility Christ displayed on the cross.

Discipleship is not a program but a lifestyle of intentional mentorship. Emerging leaders should identify younger men or youths who show promise and invest time in them—sharing biblical truths, offering practical counsel, and praying together. In Kumasi, many seasoned businessmen have formed “Mmarima Nkyerɛkyerɛ” (Men’s Teaching) groups that meet weekly to discuss Scripture and life challenges, creating a ripple effect of godly influence.

A Story for the Heart

Kwame, a 28‑year‑old electrician from Sunyani, felt the weight of expectations from his church, his parents, and his employer. One Sunday, after hearing the call to “entrust what you have heard to faithful men who will be able to teach others,” he decided to mentor Kofi, a high‑school student who struggled with peer pressure. Kwame invited Kofi to his home for evening Bible study, taught him how to pray before each workday, and encouraged him to serve in the youth choir, showing that leadership begins with simple, consistent acts of love.

Within six months, Kofi’s confidence grew; he began helping his own younger brother with schoolwork and later started a small prayer group among his classmates. Kwame saw that his investment was bearing fruit beyond his own expectations, and he was reminded that the Holy Spirit multiplies faithful obedience. By leading family devotions, modeling integrity in financial stewardship, and serving his spouse with love, a man cultivates a legacy that will outlast his own years.

In the workplace, the emerging leader becomes a witness through excellence and ethical conduct. Whether he works in the cocoa farms of the Ashanti region or in the bustling banks of Tema, his commitment to honesty, fairness, and compassion reflects the kingdom values. Such testimony often opens doors for conversations about faith, turning ordinary jobs into mission fields.

Accountability safeguards the multiplication process. A man who submits to a trusted mentor or a small group of peers creates a safety net against spiritual drift. Regular confession, mutual encouragement, and shared prayer ensure that the disciple‑making journey remains rooted in truth and not merely in personal ambition.

Heavenly Father, grant our emerging men the humility to submit, the wisdom to teach, and the love to serve. May the Holy Spirit empower them to multiply faithful disciples in every sphere of their lives—home, church, work, and community.
